The Production Planner and Scheduler utilizes ERP, MRP and EDI systems in a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation of production processes. This role involves a blend of customer interaction, internal coordination, and technical proficiency related to analyzing customer demands, understanding capacity and influence on production while ultimately coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to position production schedules to effectively meet customer commitments. Working directly with customers on all demand related matters and overseeing ERP and MRP system to ensure alignment of demand through the entire production process.

Job Duties:

1. Production Planning and Scheduling:

  • Develop and maintain a detailed production schedule to ensure on-time delivery of products and ensure alignment with Production Manager / Supervisor.
  • Examines production specifications and capacity data, and performs mathematical calculations to determine production processes, tools, and human resource requirements.
  • Utilize ERP systems to forecast production needs, monitor inventory levels, and plan resource allocation.
  • Coordinate with Production Manager and/or Supervisors to resolve scheduling conflicts and adjust plans as necessary.
  • Translates orders into a sequential work schedule including preparation of daily and weekly schedules for coordination with overall master schedule.

2. Customer Interaction and Order Management:

  • Communicate order statuses, changes, and delivery timelines to the customer.
  • Use EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) systems to manage customer orders, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
  • Address customer queries and concerns regarding order specifications, production schedules, and delivery and updates Sales team.

3. Internal Coordination:

  • Collaborate with internal teams, including sales, purchasing, engineering, and production, to understand requirements and constraints.
  • Support sales staff with customer service functions including order specifications and delivery timeframes.
  • Provide regular updates with recommended actions to the operations manager and other relevant stakeholders on production progress and potential issues.
  • Participate in production meetings to discuss scheduling, resource allocation, and process improvements.

4. Quality and Compliance:

  • Knowledgeable on quality standards and ensure that production schedules align with quality standards and compliance requirements.
  • Work with the quality assurance team to incorporate quality checks into the production schedule.

5. Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Analyze production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
  • Perform capacity analysis in to support what-if scenarios, forecast changes, and plan for production growth.
  • Generate reports on production performance, schedule adherence, and inventory levels for management review.

6. Continuous Improvement:

  • Continuously seek ways to optimize production schedules and processes for greater efficiency.
  • Contribute to the Health, Safety and Environment, continuous improvement, and LEAN programs.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and technological advancements in ERP, MRP and EDI systems.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field or equivalent level of related work experience.
  • Proven experience in production planning and scheduling, preferably in the steel fabrication industry.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, understanding of Lookups, Pivot tables, macro recordings, data tables, charting, data sorting segregation and formula auditing.
  • Basic understanding of relational databases
  • Proficiency in ERP and MRP systems and a strong understanding of EDI processes.
  • Highly analytical: critical thinker; strong analytical aptitude and attention to detail; due to the speed and rate of change occurring in this manufacturing environment, must be able to problem solve and think independently.
  • Understands technical documentation, industrial blueprints and plans.

The Production Supervisor (PS) shall be responsible for the direct supervision and coordination of all production activities and employees within their respective departments.

The key to success within our operation is teamwork and cooperation, frequent and engaging interface with employees and departmental teams: Planners/Schedulers, Purchasing, Warehouse, Quality Control, Engineering and Manufacturing personnel.

Leading and supervising a diverse team, the PS shall coordinate daily workload to team members and activities that safely, efficiently, and consistently meet customer delivery and quality expectations. Coordinating across multiple departments, the PS shall execute proactive decision making that promotes the highest effective and efficient production processes, methods, and utilization of company resources.
